How long do air conditioners actually last?

Most residential and commercial split units are designed to run 10 to 15 years. Beyond that, efficiency drops and repair costs start to climb. If you own a system that is more than a decade old and needs a major repair, replacement is often the better financial decision.

Signs it is time to replace

Frequent breakdowns, rising electricity bills, weaker cooling performance, unusual noises and refrigerant leaks that keep coming back are all clear indicators. Modern inverter units also cost less to run than older fixed-speed compressors, so the savings on power can pay back part of the new unit within a few years.

When repair still makes sense

If the unit is under seven years old and the fault is a single component like a capacitor, PCB or fan motor, repair is almost always cheaper. Our technicians will always give you an honest recommendation before you spend money on a new system.
