Set the right temperature

Every degree cooler than 22 to 24 degrees Celsius roughly adds 6 to 8 percent to the running cost. Set the thermostat to a sensible temperature and use fan mode when the weather is mild.

Clean or replace filters regularly

Blocked filters force the fan and compressor to work harder. A five-minute filter clean every month can cut power draw noticeably.

Consider an inverter upgrade

Inverter compressors modulate their speed instead of switching on and off, which uses far less power. If your existing unit is more than ten years old, an inverter replacement typically pays back within a few seasons.
